Dell Unveils G16 Gaming Laptop, Updates Select Alienware with 480Hz Displays

Dell introduced the G16 (7620) 16-inch gaming laptop. The manufacturer notes that the novelty is assembled in the body of a 15-inch laptop, but is equipped with a 16-inch panel with a 16:10 aspect ratio, which provides 11% more screen area compared to the G15 model.

Dell G16 has a 2560 × 1600 pixel resolution, 165Hz refresh rate and a maximum brightness of 300cd/m². The laptop is powered by a 14-core Intel Core i7-12700H processor running at up to 4.7 GHz. The G16 offers a choice of three graphics accelerators: GeForce RTX 3050 Ti with 4 GB of memory and a maximum TDP of 90 W (including NVIDIA Dynamic Boost), GeForce RTX 3060 with 6 GB of GDDR6 and a maximum TDP of 130 W, or GeForce RTX 3070 Ti with 8GB GDDR6 and 140W TDP.

The new product can be from 8 to 32 GB of DDR5-4800 RAM, as well as an NVMe solid-state drive with a capacity of 512 GB to 2 TB. Dell offers three keyboard options for the G16: a membrane keyboard with single-zone and multi-zone RGB backlighting, as well as a mechanical one on low-profile CherryMX switches and also with multi-zone RGB backlighting.

Dell G16 also includes one HDMI 2.1, three USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A, one Thunderbolt 4.0 (USB Type-C) with DisplayPort Alternate Mode, 3.5 audio combo output and one LAN. Support for the Wi-Fi 6 wireless standard is also announced, the battery has a capacity of 56 or 86 Wh. The Dell G16 measures 26.9 x 357.26 x 272.11mm and weighs 2.65kg. The base laptop is priced at $1399.

Dell also announced that it has added Alienware m17 R5 and Alienware x17 R2 an additional option in in the form of a new display with Full HD resolution and a refresh rate of 480 Hz. These are the first laptops to receive such screens. The displays have 100% sRGB color space coverage and a maximum brightness of 300 cd/m².

The Alienware m17 R5 is only available with AMD Ryzen 6000 processors. This laptop is available with a choice of Radeon RX 6000 and GeForce RTX 30 series graphics. As an option, you can choose an 8-core flagship Ryzen 9 6900HX with a frequency of up to 4.9 GHz and a Radeon RX 6850M XT graphics card with 12 GB of GDDR6 memory.

The Alienware x17 R2 model, in turn, only offers Intel Alder Lake processors and GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards. You can, for example, choose a package with a 14-core Intel Core i7-12900HK with a frequency of up to 5 GHz and a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti with 16 GB GDDR6.

Alienware m17 R5 with AMD starts at $1950, Alienware x17 R2 with Intel and GeForce starts at $2250.
